/ˈtaləsmən/
An object that is thought to have magic powers and to bring good luck.
As a designer, I have expanded my definition of a talisman as any source of inspiration that can be applied to design. It can come in the form of a keepsake that represents the essence of a new project. It can be a tangible reminder of the Client’s vision as the creative process unfolds.
Creativity is born out of our experiences and connections. Artwork can pique our curiosity and playfulness. Our natural surroundings keep us in awe. Walking through a city for the first time can help us connect with our empathy as we discover how other people live.
Design is transformative. It is our opportunity to serve and communicate with the world
 by merging art with function.
How does this translate into creative problem-solving?
Collaboration starts with listening.
What is the Client’s vision?
If research includes visiting the project site, what do we want the visitor to experience?
How can design connect the two?
